Refuse approval of the CN Hub and put our health first

Refuse approval of the CN Hub and put our health first Milton Canadian Champion Tuesday, January 5, 2021 Dear Editor,

Milton R.A.I.L. (Residents Affected by Intermodal Lines) notes February 2021, will mark our 20th anniversary in the effort to stop the C.N. Intermodal and Logistic Hub. Please know our action in this fight is not over. Milton R.A.I.L. understands Cabinet has not made a decision. We also acknowledge there are many rumours, and speculations circulating within the community. Cabinet has the information they need to make their decision. However, we feel they may not have connected with the community's heart, and we want to change that. In Minister Wilkinson's own words please, "help us build a healthier, fairer, and more resilient future that we can be proud to pass on to our children and grandchildren." Halton Region stands unanimously to stop the C.N. Logistic Hub. Milton and Halton's citizens cannot become a tragic health statistic due to the environmental impacts of this industrial development. We are asking Minister Wilkinson and his Cabinet colleagues to REJECT approval of the C.N. Logistic Hub. We owe that to our children, grandchildren and the many generations to come. The decision of the Minister of Environment and Climate Change and his Cabinet colleagues will determine our future. The Environmental Assessment determined a Panel Review Process was required as there were many issues with the project. The Review Panel found Significant Adverse Environmental Effects on human health that are unmitagable. Human life and the environment will suffer. Those who genuinely want to leave a better place for our children, grandchildren and future generations must acknowledge that the location specified by C.N. is inappropriate. Building it would be the wrong thing to do. Future generations would forever suffer immediate and long-term cumulative impacts. I want to pass to my family a healthier, fairer, and more resilient future, just as Minister Wilkinson wants for his family and all Canadians. We are real people, who will suffer severe health impacts from the hub--if built. Protect our lives and our future. REFUSE approval of the C.N. Hub and put our health first! This initiative has been a big part of my life and that of my families. They watched Milton R.A.I.L. work from a very young age and participated as they grew. They know how vital this effort is for all of Halton Region and people across Canada. We have not given up! Headlines newsletterTop stories delivered to your inbox.
