Thursday, May 31/01  -  Tour of CN’s Brampton Intermodal  Terminal.  Participants not impressed with visit, which was cut short.  Not all questions were answered.  Inside an air-conditioned bus it was impossible to be aware of the noise of the terminal.   May is a slow time according to CN representatives.

Tuesday, August 7, 2001  -  The report on the proposal by CN to build an Intermodal Facility in Milton was discussed at the Council meeting.

 

Saturday, August 18, 2001  -  Mall presentation cancelled. No one was available to attend the display.

 

Monday, August 20, 2001  -  Beginning on Monday RAIL members spent in excess of 40 hours reworking the third draft of a letter to the CTA outlining the concerns that members have with the proposed intermodal site.  The letter is based on the concerns of our members as expressed to the committee.  It is now at 22 pages and is not yet finished.

Wednesday, October 24, 2001  -  Regional Council Strategic Plan Meeting attended by members of RAIL. They had the opportunity to give information.

 

Monday, October 29, 2001  -  Milton Town Council meeting at which RAIL made a presentation seeking funds to help in our campaign.  The motion before Council was defeated and no money was forthcoming.  Council re-affirmed its opposition to the proposed intermodal site.

 

Tuesday, October 30, 2001  -  Some members attended  a transportation and transit planning meeting at the Lions’ Memorial Hall.   There was a favourable opportunity to give some information to all in attendance.

 

Tuesday, November 20, 2001  -  The Chair and other members attended a Burlington Ward 3 and 6 ratepayers and Councillors meeting to give information to these residents.

 

Wednesday, November 21, 2001  -  The Chair attended a meeting at the Region to discuss Safety and Emergency Services Planning and Infrastructure. RAIL was commended for their high degree of professionalism. 

 

Friday, November 23, 2001  -  Some members attended a meeting with interested parties to discuss aims and objectives of RAIL.

 

Thursday, November 29, 2001  -  Regular meeting of RAIL at the Seniors’ Centre.

 

Friday, December 7, 2001  -  Region and the Town of Milton issue a Public Information Package on the Proposed CN Intermodal Facility.  We should be heartened by the stand as it is explained within the package.

 

Saturday, December 8, 2001  -  A newspaper report on the Proposed Intermodal Terminal appeared in the New Homes Section of the Toronto Star.  This was good coverage of the situation.  The Hamilton Spectator also had a report on the proposal.

 

Friday, December 28, 2001  -  RAIL in Globe and Mail “Fighting For Rural Life in Milton” Great coverage in with photo of our Chair and the CN crossing at Lower Base Line.

 

Saturday, Decemeber 29, 2001  -  CN’s Proposed Intermodal second only to Chris Hadfield’s space walk in The Canadian Champion’s “2001 in Review” of significant events.

July 25, 2002  -  Meeting of RAIL at Seniors’ Centre – guest speaker Buzz Currie. Ian Thompson, Communications Officer for CN was in attendance along with his wife and secretary at the JULY 25 meeting.  He answered questions as forthcoming as he wished to be.  A few days later the Champion carried news that the Environmental Study was complete.  News to us.

 

August 16, 2002  -  Some members were invited to attend an Alliance Party of Canada luncheon for a question and answer session with MP Diane Alonczy, of Calgary-Nose Hill.  RAIL was represented in good numbers and had ample opportunity to present our case.

  -  Some members were present at the CN/Britannia Road crossing with Mayor Krantz and MP Ablonczy.

 

August and September  -  Members of RAIL have attended a number of meetings concerned with the mid-peninsula highway which will pass through the middle of Burlington to join 407.
